What do you think of the premise in this Equities Critical article?
Yes, this is a pretty good analysis of the economic issues we face. That being said, my sense of the longer term is more positive than the writer’s.
Needless to say, I find that what passes for political discourse by Msrs. Trump and Cruz falls far below my level of acceptable standards and values for anyone seeking the highest office in our land. Fortunately, it appears that there are others in our government who are beginning to come together to build a consensus for compromise and change. The most important leadership will come from the House leadership and the Congressman from Wisconsin. Hopefully, we will see legislation coming out of the House and Senate that will be structured with both parties and the President sitting at the same table to resolve as best they can, the differences in their views. We truly do need legislative reform in tax policy, immigration, infrastructure rebuilding, basic research spending, healthcare, Social Security, and, no doubt, many other areas of government and government policy. I do not look forward to our November election, but I do see reason for some trust that the political system in Washington, DC will heal itself, and work will be done.
It certainly seems true that the Federal Reserve, along with other global central banks, have resolved the issue of the limitations to creating economic growth from monetary policy. Our Fed has tested the waters three times, now, and I suspect that its members have resolved this issue – increasing the money supply must come from the increasing turnover of borrowing and lending, rather than through creating an excess supply of money, and expecting such availability to carry the entire economy forward .... government fiscal management and support is needed in order to enhance an environment that encourages economic growth – removing obstacles to business growth and cross border cooperation.
The monetary aggregate numbers I follow are positive. They are showing a positive side to the future, in terms of economic growth. It appears that, even without the government reforms outlined above, the system is capable of healing itself.
Have faith, Cathy!!
